Week 2 (Post 2) Logos Final Decision
After having gone through ten different names and experimenting with different designs and color palates, I decided on using Yumekoe, my second design as my final. I really liked the message of "voice dream" and the image of the microphone really enhances that message. Sena seemed to like it as well because she said it reflects who I am and what I aspire to do professionally which is what artists should always do. I tried printing it on Monday January 26, 2015 with the TA, but the printer would not work for some reason so we decided to save it. Among my other designs, I really enjoyed my first one entitled AniTaku because of its colors and font design. The sakura petal is to express that the company does license and produce English dubbed versions of anime from Japan. While I had ten different designs in mind, I only managed to work and design six or seven in total due to time contraints and not having the program on my personal computer. I like to have less, but better quality work then more and bad quality work. Hopefully this is what Sena is looking for as I worked pretty hard on these thinking of the different ways to present an anime licensing/dubbing company.
Week 2 (Post 1) Chapter 1 - The Photograph as Contemporary Art
Chapter 1 discusses how photography is an art and what photographers try to express with their photos, On chapter 21, Charlotte Cotton states that "all of the photographers here evolve from a strategy or happening orchestrated by the photographers for the sole purpose of creating an image" What this means is that photographers don't just take random photographs because it looks good. They actually go through a process of making observations while letting sequences unfold. When the time is right, they snap a shot to capture the moment of action. Photography became widespread around the 1960's and 1970's. Based on the pictures in the chapter, photography was popular among Japanese artists, In most photographs, the photographer is always focused on a subject, whether it be the background or foreground. Depending on which is the subject, the opposite will always be blurred so as ti keep their audience's attention on the subject. Some photographs have leading lines that help direct an audiences' attention to the subject. Overall, photography has definitely evolved thanks to new technology and will continue to become more high quality in the future.

Week 1 (Post 2) Helvetica Documentary
Helvetica is a documentary which discusses the origins the font of Helvetica as well as how designs of words effects how people feel or respond to situations. It discusses the challenges of graphic design and how it isn't easy and can compared to that of a physician trying to find a diagnosis for patients and their many different symptoms which could be related to various other illnesses. A graphic designer thinks of different styles of writing words and arranging them. Different designs have different effects on different people. It depends on how the style looks and what the intention or meaning behind the text is. Helvetica is a neutral typeface/font and can come across differently depending on the text and color palates. This documentary has opened my eyes to the world of design and creativity. I never realized how much of a process it is to create a logo, slogan and everything else the general public sees on billboards, magazines and pretty much everywhere else in the world. When I first heard of typography, I laughed it off and didn't realize it was a literal specialization. What we see today makes me realize how much needed graphic designers are, yet my question is, why do people say that the need for graphic designers is dropping significantly. New text are being printed everyday and designing those in a creative way will always be needed.

Week 1 (Post 1) Project 1 - Logos
For our first project, Sena wants us to be creative and make a logo based on a fictional company we can think of, or to make our name look fancy as if advertising ourselves. So far, I'm thinking of basing the logo off a company that licenses and produces English adaptions of anime (Japanese animations), I'm pretty sure Sena is familiar as she mentioned watching Hayao Miyazaki films to me last quarter when I took DTC 101 and an art class with her for inspiration in making my own creations. As for names, I'm thinking of something along the lines of Anitaku which derives from the combination of Anime and Otaku (otaku meaning geeky enthusiast/fan of something in some way) or perhaps Koeyume which translates to "voice dream" which relates to me in the fact that I dream of becoming a professional voice actor. There's still many other names jumbled in my head, however, these two are what stuck out to me the most so far. This class seems like it will be fun and a new learning experience for me.
