Week 8 (Post 2) A New Role Confirmed
While this may not relate to anything in school or my classes, I do want to spread the word that after having submitted an audition several weeks ago for a character that is a fan favorite for an indie video game, results were announced on March 7, 2015. The character is named Jet Ryker York. He is described to be very apathetic in nature due to his troubled past, however still has a soft side to him. The producer of the game has had this character uncast since 2012 because nobody caught her and her teams' attention with their auditions. She did around 20 rounds and for this last round, I finally sent in an audition. After having a bad day at work, to the point where I even quit, I become depressed and stressed. The day was also when this announcement would be made for who would be cast for the character. I was left in suspense, but after over 120+ auditions, the producer and her team chose me to be the voice actor for Jet. I was ecstatic and my mood definitely brightened.
Week 8 (Post 1) FA 333 Project 2
In Video and Sound class, Doug had us create a sound for an image of our choosing of a place or thing we have never heard ourselves. For my project, I chose to portray a Kendo match. (A Japanese sword fight, which is a sport in Japan). Having never been to an actual Kendo match, I created the sound of one after researching how matches usually sound by watching videos on YouTube. The sound project was definitely easy to put together as I have had practice with sound editing beforehand, however, editing it on Final Cut Pro had its drawbacks as I wasn't too proud of how I edited the applause of the crowd sound effect. More work could have been put into this project, however due to work and personal reasons, I was only able to do what I did. I have yet to receive a grade, but I'm positive it will only be average. I intend to put a lot more work into future projects.
Week 7 (Post 2) Chapter 3 - New Media In Art
Chapter 8 of New Media in Art discusses the practice of video installation art. From what I read, video installation art is a combination art of video technology and installation art (an art that uses 2D effects to capture the audience's attention) in which the entire surrounding environment is used. On page 126 and 127, a picture called Electronic Highway by Nam June Paik is shown in which dozens of televisions are stacked on top of each other with bright and colorful wires running everywhere. This image was stated to have been made to "disrupt the viewers' complacency in front of the television set. Paik believed that TV has attacked us all of our lives. He managed to get his message across by having the screens of the televisions in his picture each have a distorted image. This image captured my attention because of the unique quality and the blend of distortion and happy neon lights in one single picture.
Week 7 (Post 1) FA 332 Project 2
For project 2, Doug had the class assigned a random generated word and with this word,we were to create a composition of images that were found through a google search of that word. My word was literature so it was a lot more difficult to be creative with this word as most of what I found were that of books, shelves and feathers. For my composition, I found up to seven or so images portraying the word. I can't remember the content of all the pictures off the top of my head, but I do remember one being that of a book where the pages were flying away like birds, one was of a candle and a book on top of a desk, one included a few books and a globe, one was of a shelf full of books, my scan of three different kinds of books (including fiction novels, informational textbooks, and comic/manga books), and the main picture of the different types of genres literature can take. The project itself wasn't too difficult, but I know I could have done a better job on the composition, had I figured out sooner how I wanted to create it. I sadly, do not have a picture to show of the image as I cannot access Adobe Photoshop from my personal laptop, but I still await a grade from Doug on this project. I hope I receive a better grade then I did for Project one which I will be redoing sometime this week as he informed the class, we were allowed to do.
Week 6 (Post 2) Chapter 2 - New Media In Art
Chapter 2 of New Media in Art focuses primarily on video art and how it has impacted society. The biggest impact was the invention of the television. At first, moving images were only available in the newsreels and movie houses, but since the invention of the television, these moving images became a part of the common American house hold in both black and white and in color. The book states that "by 1953, two-thirds of American households had television; and by 1960, it was up to ninety percent, a fact which was to have a profound effect on the film industry" (Rush, 84). In the 1960's people were watching seven hours of television a day and many artists viewed television as the enemy. Although television seemed to take away the appreciation of canvas art, it did bring a whole different kind of art altogether. With moving images, stories could be told in less abstract ways. It gave many other people jobs as actors, directors, producers and story tellers who weren't fit to draft novels. Television showed different types of genres and left an impact on many. The Wonderwoman picture on page 103 was a compilation of different manipulated images from a popular tv show in the 1970's. This video, created by Dara Birnbaum argued against a myth that said woman were beautifully chiseled miracle workers and lover. Television is now a part of daily life, and even if cable or even satellite networks aren't being used anymore, televisions are essential for people who want to watch on web hosting sites such as Netflix, Crunchyroll, Amazontv, or Hulu.
