Week 7 (Post 2) Chapter 3 - New Media In Art

Chapter 8 of New Media in Art discusses the practice of video installation art. From what I read, video installation art is a combination art of video technology and installation art (an art that uses 2D effects to capture the audience's attention) in which the entire surrounding environment is used. On page 126 and 127, a picture called Electronic Highway by Nam June Paik is shown in which dozens of televisions are stacked on top of each other with bright and colorful wires running everywhere. This image was stated to have been made to "disrupt the viewers' complacency in front of the television set. Paik believed that TV has attacked us all of our lives. He managed to get his message across by having the screens of the televisions in his picture each have a distorted image. This image captured my attention because of the unique quality and the blend of distortion and happy neon lights in one single picture.
