Week 6 (Post 1) A New role? and Project 1 disappointment for Print and Web class.

I have recently sent in an audition for an indie game that has been in development for several years. The creator and director had been searching for a voice actor who would be able to portray one of the main characters in the game correctly and even after countless of submissions had not found the right voice. After sending my audition, I was showered with positive feedback with one minor critique. After exchanging several emails, it seems she may be casting me for this part and should I receive the role, I will be extremely happy and honored. The sad note I have pertains to my grade for project one in Print and Web. The project required me to take 3 pictures and 3 scans of items/objects that either repelled and attracted us and have legitimate reasons as to why we felt the way we did about them. I received a 64, which I was sadden by as I didn't use rule of thirds (didn't realize what it was) and some of my pictures were not quite clear. After Doug handed back my grade, he announced that he did start off grading harshly at first, but lightened up for other students. Hopefully my next project will be better. I just need to keep working hard to attain the results I want.

Week 5 (Post 2) Workload

Being a week late on these blog postings pains me, however my workload this semester is much greater than last. I enjoy the DTC major as I can express my creative and artistic abilities, however I'm not much of a photographer for film recorder and I'm no the best at editing these photos or videos with the program required of us to learn. Being a voice actor online, I am really good at sound editing and video editing, but only with programs I have used myself. Since I am also a manager at my current job, I am sometimes stressed out by all these projects needing to be due at the same time for 3 different classes and sometimes feel like I won't be able to pass. But I do try my best and always hope for the best. I know that optimism will only help me this semester. I am nearing the end of my college career, being a halfway done junior and I am preparing myself for a future of my desire. I hope I can make it though and move to LA or Dallas one day to take acting lessons to further improve my skills and send in auditions for official animation of game voice overs.

Week 5 (Post 1) Chapter 1 and Intro - New Media In Art

The intro of New Media in Art is a general introduction of video and film and how it came to be and grew into a contemporary art. Chapter 1 starts out by discussing the growth of performance art. This development began around the 1950s and 60s and grew into a big industry starting in New York. Performances were done at churches regularly and eventually grew into theatre. This would eventually grow into film and video which is the modern ages' most popular form of performance art, be it animation with voice over or literal acting from a performer in front of a camera on a set. The chapter goes on further to discuss choreographers and their importance to a performer's performance as well as sets and costumes. I am extremely happy and thankful for the development of performance art as I am an actor and singer and have performed before in front of an audience. It is my passion and I get chills and thrills whenever I do so. Recording on a microphone for animations and games is especially fun for me.

Week 4 (Post 2) Chapter 6 and 8 - The Photograph as Contemporary Art

As the title of the chapter suggests, the photographs in this chapter capture moments in history that are important to know. On page 173, there is a photograph entitled Halima Abdullai by Fazal Sheikh of a woman and her grandson in Kenya who were just treated for an illness or injury and this shows what sort of troubles the Somalian refugees have to experience. The following page shows a photo entitled Young Buddhist Monk by Chan Chao, of a Burmese man who is a refugee and now a monk. He was part of an armed student group. but left due to circumstances. In each case, the photograph portrays someone who was an important part of history that helps us understand the different cultures and the people from said cultures and what troubles occurred during the time of the photograph. Much of the photographs portray either some sort of desolate wasteland or construction of a new environment, all relative to history. These events shape both the present and the future and photography helps us understand these events visually. Chapter 8 was also of interest as it focused more on the physical objects. Some of these photos look more like paintings so it's extraordinary to see such beautiful pieces. Some of the pieces were edited in photoshop or some other photo editing program to make a more unrealistic feel to the picture and makes it more unique to the individual who took the photo. It ties in with our reliance on technology and how it is important to modern society.

Week 4 (Post 1) FA 332 - Project 1

I had a to of fun doing the first project in Doug's Print and Web class. For this project. the students were required to take three pictures and scan three items. The requirement for the task was to find at least two items that attract you and repel you. For my project, I took two pictures that attracted me and one that repelled me, and I scanned two pictures that attracted me and one that repelled me. My two pictures of attraction included my microphone and headset as this represents my love for the craft of voice acting and represents my love for entertainment in general, and that of a fruit bowl which represents my taste for sweet and nutritious snacks. The picture of repel was that of a trash bin. I hate taking out the trash no matter where I am. I don't like the smell and I don't like nasty grease or random garbage accidentally getting on my hands. Everything about garbage is disgusting to me. For scans of attraction I first scanned my Playstation Vita du-oed with my favorite video game on that system. This represents me as being gamer and a person who loves anything with an interesting and compelling storyline. The second can of attraction was a custom made necklace my girlfriend bought me. This represents my girlfriend's and my relationship and how much we've been through together. The scan that repels me was that of a toy ladybug as it shows my greatest fee of bugs. Bugs are gross and creepy. If a person even jokes about a bug crawling on me. I freak out and run out the room I'm in. I hope to be able to do more projects that can help show the class who I am as a person.

Week 3 (Post 2) Chapter 4 - The Photograph as Contemporary Art

This chapter is intriguing in the fact that the artist who take the photographs use ordinary objects and end up taking a picture of something that is extraordinary. On page 115, it is stated that "the stuff of daily life ostensibly counts as the subject, the 'something' of the pictures. But because we may ordinarily pass the objects by, or keep them at the periphery of our vision, we may not automatically give them credence as visual objects within art's lexicon" (Cotton). This is true because as people, we pass my so many different objects, people etc everyday in our lies, however, we only actually pay attention to the things that are obvious and are in front of us. Each picture is interesting, yet simple at the same time. In one picture, 2 broken car doors are placed in front of a building door, so as to model a door being blockaded. The very first picture shown shows a kitchen took balancing diagonally with what is believe to be a carrot and piece of celery on top of it. This set up creates a different shape made from simple kitchen objects/products. This chapter has made me be more careful about the little things around me and has made me take time to appreciate the beauty of art in the world.

Week 3 (Post 1) Hectic Weekend

During the weekend of 1/30/15 - 2/1/15, I had a completely hectic weekend. I was assigned 3-5 assignments and 3 projects all due on 2/2/15 and 2/3/15. In my Print and Web class, I had to snap three pictures and scan three items which reflects what kinds of things attract and repel me. It was one of the shorter and easier projects, however, I needed to head to work after completion of the assignment since I did this assignment after I had returned home from class on Friday 1/30/15. For the next two classes, I again needed a DSLR Camera. As a student, I am able to reserve a camera one weekend a month and one day a week. This weekend was that weekend. On Saturday 1/31/15, I decided to work on my English assignment first, which required me to critically think about teamwork and collaboration and type several paragraphs about what kind of work I have done that requires collaboration. After completing this assignment, I went on to work on my online homework for DTC 475 - Digital Diversity. The assignment was split into 3 parts. The first being finding and reading 2-3 articles relating to my chosen career/major and summarizing what they are about. The second was to relate them to Digital Diversity. The third was to look at 2 more articles and relate them to Digital Diversity and what it means for society. After completing this assignment, I again needed to head to work. On Sunday morning 2/1/15, I went on to work on my Video and Sound project which required me to shoot 40 still shots, at least 10 seconds long, from many different angles. Since Sunday was Superbowl, I had to go to work right after shooting 20 of the shots. After finally returning home at 8 pm, I fell asleep until midnight struck. When I awoke, I shot 20 more stills and uploaded all 40 shots onto my laptop. Seeing as how the next day was Monday and was the day to return the camera, I decided to stay up the entire night to shoot 100 pictures of things that related to me for my last project in Multimedia Authoring. I found myself shooting things I liked around the house and eventually had to drive around town. I completed the assignment around 6:30 am. Completely beat, I finally went to bed, content with having completed all of my assignments and projects that were required of me to complete over the weekend.
