Week 12 (Post 2) Sakura-Con 2015

Sakura Con 2015 was so much fun. Thoughout the weekend, my girlfriend and I attended various panels and some really awesome people in the voice over industry. On Friday, we already had a set schedule as we were to be at a reception dinner at 7pm and a outing at 9pm. Both these small events were a nice way to meet with the voice actors in a more comfortable setting and this way, we wouldn't have to wait in their respective lines for 2-3 hours. We only got to attend one panel because of our hectic schedule, but it was all worth it. The rest of the time, we spent in the exhibitors hall and artist alley looking at various merchandise and art. On Saturday, our schedule was more free and we attended more panels. We had to wait in one of the voice actor's line for autographs because he was unable to attend the reception dinner. We were in line for a good 3 hours, but we sill managed to attend the panels we wanted to go to and look at more merch. We also got to meet a longtime friend of mine I met online who is now getting into the professional world of voice over herself, so that was fun. On Sunday, we had to leave at around 4pm as I wanted to attend one more panel called Voice Acting Tryouts. This panel was a way for aspiring voice actors to put their skills to the test. Sadly, I was not selected to go up, but it was a blast hearing from everyone else. Overall, it was a fun weekend with tons of pictures and exciting events.

Week 12 (Post 1) Another Voice Role

On my way to Seattle, I received an email for a creator of an original animation. The animation is described to be about "A boy named Izeah who lives a ‘comfortable’ life with no friends and has an anxiety disorder. He has been having reoccurring dreams addressing his loneliness. Could this mean something? Heck yeah it does. Yvette is an imaginary friend, sent from an unknown land to create a new life for him- one with friends and happiness. But when she comes, she attracts a lot of unwanted attention, and not just from humans.." I was cast as Izeah Murlon and am very happy to be a part of this project. I have found that most of the characters I have been cast as recently have the apathetic quality to them with a cute side. Jet freaks out over video games and other nerdy things, Kevin thinks his own jokes are hilarious, and Izeah loves dogs and other cute things. I am very content with my voice over roles and hope to record for this project soon.

Week 11 (Post 2) DTC 475 no new posts

In my online class, I've noticed no new updates from my professor. I had no idea why, but I decided to wait and regularly check on Angel. Eventually, after 2 weeks of no updates passed, I checked my WSU email and found that she has been preoccupied with taking care of her parents and they are ill. I hope everything is okay. I'm fine waiting for new assignments, but personal problems come before work in my opinion. I'm sure she will be posting an update soon about our next assignment. I heard that some students were reporting the inactivity to the Dean and as much as I know how they must feel, doing so is kind a mean thing to do when there are personal problems going on.

Week 11 (Post 1 )Reviewing of Projects

This week, in all classes, we were reviewing the final product of all project threes. In print and web, we reviewed everyone's packaging design, in multimedia authoring, we reviewed everyone's cinema verite, and in video and sound, we reviewed everyone's music video. Everyone in each class had some creative projects and I was amazed at how much creativity this world has. I look forward to our next projects in each class. In both print and web, and in multimedia authoring, we will be creating websites for ourselves which I find incredibly fun. In video and sound, we will be filming a documentary in a group and am excited to see what kind of documentary everyone comes up with. I do not regret going into the DTC major as I love expressing my creativity in all these different ways. The work load is insane, but I have somehow managed to keep up. I hope for am successful rest of the year.

Week 10 (Post 2) 2 more Voice Roles

On March 14th, I received two emails from two different casting directors. They had both informed me that I was to be cast in their original works in which I beat out 50+ auditions for one project and 90+ auditions for the other project. The first email was for an original animation called Tokyo Magic Star. The animations started out as a joke, but eventually grew into something serious with dark themes such as depression, starvation, low self-esteem and etc. After the animation became serious, the creator decided to look for voice actors to fill in some of the parts as she felt she was not diverse enough to do the characters justice. I auditioned for the part of K aka Satan. It was a surprise being cast for this role as I didn't think I sounded evil enough, but according to the creator, she was impressed to the point her jaw dropped. The second email was for a fan game based on a real game called Danganronpa. The only difference is that the characters and story were all originally made by the director herself. The fan game is about 16 high schoolers who are invited to a high class high school called Hope's Peak Academy because of their insane talent in their respective fields. The twist is that they are all trapped in the school and find that they must kill each other to get out. I was cast as the Ultimate Chemist named Kevin Cosmos. Kevin is anti-social and is apathetic in nature much like my first character, Jet, however, he has a side to him that is apparently cute. He thinks he's funny and is often seen laughing at his own jokes. I am pleased to be a part of these projects and will be receiving scrips for both projects sometime in April or May.

Week 10 (Post 1) Spring Break

During my spring break, I spent most of my time working on my school work. The majority of the break was spent working on both the music video project in video and sound class and the cinema verite in multimedia authoring. This was due to the limited time each student had a camera for. Shooting for cinema verite was especially hard as I was to shoot anything that interested me. The cocnept was more abstract then the music video and my shooting options was incredibly broad. I decided to shoot traffic, the supermarket and school. Editing for cinema verite was also a hassle as I wasn't sure what exactly I needed to edit out and how to transition each scene. The times when I didn't film for the two projects, I spent working and recording a part of my lines for my first voice acting project. Spring Break was more work then a break. When I wasn't working, I would spend my time relaxing, watching anime, playing video games, or even catching up on my sleep. I hope my next break won't be as hectic and I get to spend more time relaxing. Being productive is a great feeling, but tired me out fast.

Week 9 (Post 2) FA 333 Project 3

For project 3 in video and sound class, we were to create a music video of any song using footage we shoot. Grading for the project would be based on the complexity of editing. The song I chose was Secrets by Mary Lambert. I thought to myself about how I could shoot for this project and realized most people would probably try to shoot footage that included lip synching of some sort. I decided that my footage would instead be scenes that reflected the lyrics. By doing so, I thought it would make my project more unique. I did all my shooting during Spring Break which took me about 6 hours in total in one day. During the shooting, I took multiple shots in order to give me variety. The editing I did took place after Spring Break which took me another 3 hours.The video was a success with the class in which it took 3rd place after a voting process to see which video was liked the best. The lyrics and scenes were aimed at the general public and basically told people to be themselves and not care about what anyone else thinks. In my video, my girlfriend is seen writing out traits she didn't like about herself and eventually crumpling the paper up which reflected the main theme of the song. Through the rest of the video, she is seen playing video games, watching anime and in general, having fun and being herself. This project was a challenge as it tested both my shooting and editing skills. Video projects are always tough, however, they are also tough. I look forward to the documentary we will be doing next.
